Second Hand Home 2

Check out This Is Not Ikea (TINI). I've scoured their website for hours on end (thisisnotikea). This is what I do when I'm bored. They have a store on Fairfax (515 S. Fairfax Ave.). Love, Love, Love their stuff. And now after reading the LA Weekly article I love owner Alexis Hadjopulos. "As long as I buy it and I own it for a minute, I'm, okay." A man of my heart. x

Hello My Name is Angela, and I'm a Vintageholic

Vintage shopping is addictive. Ask anyone who knows me and my love of vintage borders on obsession. I must posses certain finds. Even the most impractical items find their way into my heart. I guess I'm acutely aware of their scarcity. I just can't pass up that ... cause I know I'll never see another one like it. And why it's only ... for goodness sakes! This fear of scarcity also drives me to collect things. Hats, scarves, shoes, small boxes, lamps, slips....(Trust me I could go on all day here). I rage against this impulse quite often, as I hate to feel like a hoarder. However I can't seem to shake these natural instincts. I was born to be vintage at heart.

Second Hand Home

Besides clothing, my other addiction is home furnishings. When ever I go shopping for clothing I always find myself gravitating to the home sections. Some of my best vintage purchases have been home items. Such as my prized Carlo painting purchased for $30. I went into a vintage furniture shop on Abbot Kinney and found a piece by the same artist on sale for $1500! And mine is 3x times the size! When I told the owner of my recent purchase, her mouth hit the floor. You never know what you'll find in second hand shops. I've been fortunate enough to fill my apartment with these finds. I always get the most compliments on these inexpensive treasures. They are unique and the quality of those items have stood the test of time. I can't say that for any IKEA furniture I've purchased. Besides the regular spots I hit for a real bargain, LA has an abundance of vintage stores for home furnishings. Echo Park has a couple of my favorite shops. Also Craigslist is an amazing resource for vintage furniture. Finding these items take more time than a trip to IKEA, but the payoff is well worth the wait. Buying one of kind items creates an eclectic style that is uniquely tailored to you. Here is a slide show on Apartment Therapy of a house filled with second hand items. I've posted some highlights here.

Vintage can save the world!

All around us are distress signs from the toll our consumerism takes on the world. From the moment that J Crew sweater hits your shopping bag, it has had a more destructive life that you can imagine. The pollution the factory makes...The third world labor that assembles it...The truck that distributes it to stores...The bag you take it home in. It's enough to make some one go mad. So why not save some of that waste while looking fashionable at the same time? Don't think of it as a sacrifice. Buying vintage is a smarter investment, financially and fashionably speaking. As addicting as throw away fashion is, it's always the first thing I get rid of each season, while my vintage stays put. You know your ass looks better in vintage than it will in $20 Forever 21 dress!

Check out Ellen Ruppel Shell's new book, Cheap: The High Cost of Discount Culture". Buying vintage makes you that much cooler and smarter!!

Hello World, I'm Your Wild Girl

Starting a blog is nerve wracking. I've been stressing all week about my first post. What should I write? It has to be perfect! There is too much pressure to compete with the millions of bloggers out there. What makes me unique? Why should people listen to me? Fuck it. I've decided to just put my thoughts out here with out too much judgement from myself. I'll just psych myself out. I have to pop my cherry sometime!
